NCL – IIT (BHU) Incubation Centre

NCL – IIT (BHU) Incubation Centre, is an umbrella organisation at IIT (BHU) Varanasi for fostering entrepreneurship and nurturing tech start-ups. It administers a business incubator which provides ‘Start to scale’ support for technology based entrepreneurship and facilitates the conversion of research activity into entrepreneurial ventures.

RKVY-RAFTAAR Agri Business Incubator (R-ABI)

Agri-Business Incubator program is supported under “Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana – Remunerative Approaches for Agriculture and Allied Sector Rejuvenation” (RKVY-RAFTAAR) RKVY-RAFTAAR leveraging start-ups in Agri Business & Allied sector through RKVY-RAFTAAR scheme of Govt of India.

Support:

Agripreneurship Orientation, Idea Stage Incubation, Expansion Stage Incubation, idea/pre-seed stage support money upto Rs. 5 lakhs, Incubation & Seed Stage support upto Rs.25 lakhs {after two months of residency of incubatee}, Launching of products/ services/ business platforms etc., Scaling up of operations

PROGRAMS:

ANKURAN: Farmers/Students/Youth having innovative ideas can apply for Agripreneurship Orientation Program (Internship) for 2 months. Selected applicants will get a stipend of Rs.10,000/- per month. After successful completion of internship, selected start-ups will be eligible for Rs.5 Lakhs pre-seedstage grant for converting their idea into prototype/product.

PRASFUTAN: Agri-business startups having a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) based on innovation in agriculture and allied sector can apply for Seed Stage Funding Programme, which includes upto Rs. 25 lakhs grant-in-aid.

CISCO thingQbator

IIT (BHU) has partnerned with CISCO in collaboration with NASSCOM Foundation to work towards provide an Internet of Things based platform for students of IIT (BHU) and BHU.

The Platform – ‘thingQbator’ will help students test their ideas and enhance their skills in new and upcoming technologies.

Objectives of the thingQbator program are as follows:

  • BUILD DIGITAL SKILLS: empower students through hands on learning
  • LOCAL SOLUTIONS TO LOCAL PROBLEMS: democratise diagnosis of problems at the local level
  • LINK INNOVATION TO MARKETS: partnerships with businesses depending on the ideas and their scales
  • ACCELERATE STUDENT ENTREPRENEURSHIP: Help students transition from job seekers to job creators

Design Innovation Centre (DIC)

Design Innovation Centre (DIC) is a joint project of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology – IIT (BHU) to be funded by Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development,Government of India in 2015.

Design-centred innovation is a force multiplier that can help the country move up the value chain, making Indian industry globally competitive. In this context, Ministry of Human Resource Development proposes to launch a National Initiative for Design Innovation in the Twelfth Plan.

Vision:

“To promote informal learning and foster innovation and invention in technology, with a focus on technologies aimed at contributing positively to the environment and to the society”

DIC was started in 2015 with an objective to be a forum for creative output of the budding engineers of IIT (BHU). It provides students the necessary platform for realizing their ideas.

The DIC vision is being achieved by espousing three major concepts.

  • Walk in with an idea, walk out with a product
  • Support large student team projects
  • A futuristic lab environment

E-Cell

We at E-Cell, IIT (BHU) Varanasi believe that entrepreneurship is the key to India’s development. To fulfill this vision, we have conceptualized & successfully implemented various initiatives to help students, young entrepreneurs & professionals in their entrepreneurial journey.

Institute Innovation Council

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India has established ‘MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC)’ to systematically foster the culture of Innovation amongst all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) with a mandate to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas and transform them into prototypes while they are informative years.

MIC has envisioned encouraging creation of ‘Institution’s Innovation Council (IICs)’ across selected HEIs. A network of these IICs will be established to promote innovation in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in the campuses.

Major focus of IIC

  • To create a vibrant local innovation ecosystem.
  • Start-up supporting Mechanism in HEIs.
  • Prepare institute for Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements Framework.
  • Establish Function Ecosystem for Scouting Ideas and Pre-incubation of Ideas.
  • Develop better Cognitive Ability for Technology Students.

Functions of IICs

  • To conduct various innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by Central MIC in time bound fashion.
  • Identify and reward innovations and share success stories.
  • Organize periodic workshops/ seminars/ interactions with entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and create a mentor pool for student innovators.
  • Network with peers and national entrepreneurship development organizations.
  • Create an Institution’s Innovation portal to highlight innovative projects carried out by institution’s faculty and students.
  • Organize Hackathons, idea competition, mini-challenges etc. with the involvement of industries.
